GROUP HEALTH INSURANCE

What should I know before I purchase?

In California, Group Health Insurance is governed by very specific laws. These laws make it possible for most businesses to acquire insurance regardless of what medical conditions exist in the group. With most groups, the minimum standard is that you have to have been in business for a few months and have as least two employees working 20 hours per week or more. The laws are not complicated but it takes an experienced Broker to navigate the landscape. Also, there are some systems that a broker can use that will allow you to maximize your tax deductions. Don’t hesitate to call me for assistance or questions.

What about after I purchase Group Health Insurance?

We become a part of your H/R Department. You and your employees are directed our way with your questions. We review all forms and work with your people in a way that decreases their distractions thereby increasing their productivity.

If you have 20 employees or more you are subject to federal COBRA. COBRA can be an administrative nightmare. We outsource it to a third party administrator and pay their bill for you!

We evaluate the merits of a Section 125 Plan. If prudent, we install it for you so that you can save tax and insurance dollars.

What is a Section 125 Plan?

A procedure whereby any contributions a employee makes toward his own or his dependent’s health insurance premium can be routed to a pre-tax status. The employer saves on FICA and Workers Compensation money. The employee saves on FICA as well as Federal, and State taxes. There is also an expanded version where out of pocket medical expenses and childcare expense can be routed to a pre tax status as well.
